v.1 eRider Starter Kit Launched
We are pleased to announce the release of the eRider Starter Kit, created by Teresa Crawford and the Tactical Technology Collective with the support of the global eRider community. The starter kit is designed to help organizations understand, design, implement, maintain and sustain an eRider project or program. The kit can be downloaded as a .pdf from here: Click this link Since 1997, there has been an emerging movement of technology assistance providers working in developing and transition countries. These providers are known as eRiders, whose model is based on the Circuit Rider model used successfully in the US to provide non-profit organizations with assistance in using technology to build their capacities. eRiding is a model that has been effectively used internationally to bring struggling organizations up to speed in their use of technology to fulfill their mission. The Starter Kit directly pulls on the experience and work of eRiders in over 15 countries and 400 organizations. 'I eRide because I couldn't figure out any other job where I could use my interest in technology to really have an impact and contribute to real change in policies that impact negatively in low-income communities.' From a veteran eRider Along with providing methodologies behind setting up eRider projects, the starter kit also provides samples and templates used in existing eRider projects, such as budgets and needs assessments. 'During the process of interviewing with potential eRiders we discovered a very interesting tendency of the people involved in the IT background of NGO development in Azerbaijan. Most of them already were eRiders, but they didn't know about that yet.' From the Azeri eRider project The publication of the eRider starter kit is just the beginning. The eRider starter kit will soon become a living document, incorporating the experiences and models of eRiding as they develop. ***** Special thanks to the Open Society Institute - Information Program for their support of eRider projects and for the funds to develop the eRider Starter Kit.
