Training eRiders
Introduction
This section is for eRider trainers who want to create custom programs for training new eRiders. Furthermore, individual eRiders, and anyone involved with non-profit technology support efforts, will also find useful capacity-building resources here.
This section is designed as a holistic source for eRider capacity-building resources, and includes many materials that have been designed specifically for a eRiding projects. However, you may also want to reference the wealth of additional materials (for trainers, learners, and managers) at the following web training portals:
High-Level Training Design
Generally, the materials here are sufficient to construct a training that will provide new eRiders with a practical understanding of their role, environment and specific on-the-job practices. They aim to help eRiders build:
- A thorough understanding of the eRiding model and associated processes
- An understanding of the ICT environment within non-profit development networks.
- An understanding of effective consulting methodology for development networks
- An introduction to appropriate technical skills for eRiding work
- Management and administration skills specific to sustaining and scaling autonomous eRiding operations
As each eRider project is unique, the specific skills you wish to target may not include all of these areas, or may emphasize some much more than others. As a result, careful selection, ordering, and customisation of the materials available here is important. Some example training schedules are available here:
Access The Materials
The actual training materials are broken down into modular selections of training “units” which can be used selectively depending on the application. They originate from a variety of sources and previous training programs, so some units will contain more resources than others, and the formatting of may vary slightly.
Units are grouped as follows below:
Units that present fundamental concepts about eRiding, and introductory topics for other training components.
Units that build ICT consulting and client management skills within the unique nonprofit environment. These units explore the reality of the nonprofit work environment, as well as universal consulting concepts and skills.
Units that build eRider-specific service skills. These units empahsise bread-and-butter service concepts that most eRiders will need to understand.
Units that explore specific technical skills and hands-on activities which are important for eRiders
Units that do not fit into the above categories, or are very sector-specific.
eRider training proposals, reports, surveys, evaluations and related.
The materials in this section represent a "mixed-bag" of external links and resources that are geared towards helping eRiders improve their skills and diversify the types of services they can offer to their clients. These materials could be used as part of a formal eRider training, or as informal references for individual eRiders
